US collection work for BPO companies in India
In short: the US collection day falls in India's evening and night. For consumers on US Eastern time, calls can be made from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. IST during US daylight time, and from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. IST from November 1, 2026.
Run a US-shift voice process? List your team on Hear the Agent so US agencies hear them first. There is no upfront fee.

US calling hours in India Standard Time
Regulation F presumes that calls before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. at the consumer's location are inconvenient (CFPB, 12 CFR 1006.6(b)(1)(i), regulation text, checked Oct 29, 2026).
India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving (timeanddate.com, checked Oct 29, 2026), so the half-hour offset shows up in every shift plan. US Eastern time changes from UTC−4 to UTC−5 on November 1, 2026 (timeanddate.com, checked Oct 29, 2026).
| Consumer located in | US daylight time (to Nov 1, 2026): IST is 9 h 30 min ahead of New York | US standard time (from Nov 1, 2026): 10 h 30 min ahead |
|---|---|---|
| US Eastern (8 a.m.–9 p.m. ET) | 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. next day | 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. next day |
| US Pacific (8 a.m.–9 p.m. PT) | 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 a.m. next day | 9:30 p.m. – 10:30 a.m. next day |

Planning your shift start
A shift that starts at 6:30 p.m. IST covers the full Eastern day only in the winter months.
In the US summer, the Eastern morning is already an hour old by then. A team with one fixed start time all year misses part of it. Decide whether your start time moves with the US clock change.
Established centres and smaller cities
When the Ministry of Electronics and IT set up the India BPO Promotion Scheme, it left seven established centres out of its seat allocation (MeitY IBPS page, archived, archived Feb 7, 2019):
- Bengaluru
- Chennai
- Delhi-NCR (Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida)
- Hyderabad
- Kolkata
- Mumbai
- Pune
The scheme set out to support 48,300 BPO/ITES seats spread across states by population, to build capacity in smaller cities. It has now concluded (STPI, scheme concluded; page checked Oct 29, 2026).
Smaller-city operations are welcome
Agencies listen to your agents, not to your city. They may still ask how you keep night shifts staffed and secure.
Industry size
- Technology industry revenue: expected to pass US$315 billion in FY2026 (Nasscom Strategic Review 2026, February 2026).
- Exports: above US$246 billion, with BPM exports growing about 7% (Nasscom Strategic Review 2026, February 2026).
- Direct industry headcount: about 6 million in FY2026 (Nasscom Strategic Review 2026, February 2026).
Those totals include IT services, engineering and software. Voice BPM for US collections is a small part of them.
English, measured neutrally
EF's English Proficiency Index 2025 ranks India 74th with a score of 484 (listening 457, speaking 500), close to the global average of 488 (EF EPI, 2025 edition).
National averages hide large differences between cities and between companies. They don't measure your team.
On Hear the Agent, an agency hears each agent's own introduction, role-play and replies, and decides for itself. No accent target, no score.
Before your team takes US collection calls
- Security questions. Expect questions about night-shift transport, site access and data controls. Describe them in the optional security section of your application.
- US rules apply. US collection calls follow US federal and state rules, through the agency's own procedures, not Indian rules. Read US calling rules in our BPO FAQ, then follow the agency's scripts.
- Name your account types. If your team already handles US receivables or customer service calls, say which account types. Agencies match on debt types.
Apply from India
Have your company (for example a Ministry of Corporate Affairs CIN or LLPIN) registration number and a copy of the certificate ready. You also need a work email on your company website's domain.
Your agents record later, each through their own private link.
